Summer Slam Vol. 3 Available Sunday (Probably)

I note this right now for several reasons.  One, because Brandon over at IVM always has to one up me!  Just kidding, but this is free sampler from IVM is very popular and very free.  I’m personally looking forward to hearing new stuff from Take It Back!, who is one of the 56 artists…if I counted correctly…who contributed a song to this 3 download set.  That is overwhelming.  Also, I’m telling you now because I will be out of town Sunday night, as I am watching House of Heroes play with Ruth, Sleep for Sleepers and The Workday Release at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.

The download page will be here…Summer Slam Volume 3

hey tyler ive been following this blog lately and it’s pretty good!

    so…

i was researching some attack attack! (US version of course, not the UK band) info lately…They have said that they are Christians but by the language they use i am mystified. Emery is one of my favorite bands and they don’t write “christian” music but they also don’t cuss etc etc….i also know that in the USA there are a lot of “so called” christians.

anyhow i am pretty curious if you know anything about this?

they’re music doesn’t have bad words or themes in it so maybe they are just trying to be all “tough guy who cusses” in their live shows and vidoes?

heck, you may not even think “bad language” is bad but anyways just thought i’d ask your thoughts, you can email me at rbc3isnow@gmail.com

or i guess reply to the comment here on this blog but i am not sure if i’d get an email notice if you reply………???

    thanks man, god bless!

  3. hey Robert
thanks for coming by and i’ll try to address your comment as best I can…

First of all, I don’t know much about Attack! Attack! and don’t care much for their music, but I have heard similar things about them. I can’t comment on them directly because I don’t have any personal experience with that band.

As far as Emery goes, they have made their faith very clear, both in interviews and when I have seen them live. While their lyrics generally deal with relationship stuff, they do have many songs that demonstrate their beliefs. I suggest you look at their lyrics. I have very recently heard them some words that you probably would rather not hear come out of their mouths.

However, let me say this about judging bands on if they are Christians or not, let me something very, very important. Being a Christian is not based upon our own ability to adhere to certain rules and regulations, such as the Law, the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount or anything else, but on one requirement, that if we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord, that He has died for our sins, that He has risen from the dead, that He has forgiven us. In Christ, we have freedom, not that we should sin, but that we should walk according to the Spirit of God. To you and me, cursing can be quite offensive and might cause us to stumble, where for others it might now. I believe that using such language when it can clearly stumble others is not a mature act of Christianity, but it DOES NOT disqualify someone as a Christian. Remember that you and I both have things that in our lives that fall short of the glory of God, that in our flesh dwells no good thing, we too need Jesus Christ to purify us in this dirty world that we live in. Rather than condemn them, we should look to Christ to help us to edify those that we can, to encourage people in the Word of God and let God work in their lives.

As far as judging who we cover here at CMZ, it quite frankly isn’t always cut and dry. Some bands are clearly ministry bands that use their music to bless people with the gospel, whereas others are Christians in a band and simply have a talent for making music but don’t feel called to be evangelists with their art. Then there are bands where their might be some obscurity as to who in the band are Christians or maybe just the vocalist is a Christian. I kind of have to do my research, seek God for council and go with what I believe God has me to do. I’m not perfect at this. I don’t think any website or magazine is perfect at this, but we look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith to guide us, trusting Him in what we do.

That was a long answer, but one I’m happy to share.
    thanks

    hey! thanks for the response!

i totally agree with what you said about emery, i did not mean to say that they were in the same boat with attack attack!.

i also totally agree with your points about all of us being sinners. and i would never be one of those people who shouts and holds up signs. jesus didn’t do any of that. the only people he was up set with was the pharisees (“church leaders”).

so ya i am not a huge fan of attack attack!. emery is way better! they’re older and have a more balanced sound in my opinion. AA! seems to sound the same all the way thru…

so i guess that band is just on a different path than i am. we’ll all stand before god eventually so we’ll never know the whole story til then.

thanks a bunch man! keep up the great reviews!
