Nice to see Blindside get some recognition although Switchfoot will take an award for every category they’re nominated for. (they deserve it anyway)
My question is why does Skillet have two song of the year nominations from “Awake”?? I understand the singles were released last year but.. really?
Yeah, that’s pretty ridiculous.
Even though I am a NEEDTOBREATHE fan, I gotta say that “Group of the Year” list is really silly.
Awesome that levelers up there for packaging
sadly bands like that are relegated to that kind of thing…because its impossible for a metal band to be the best group or make the best album of the year, am I right?
Has there ever been a hardcore/metal category? If not, they REALLY need to add one.
Well they do need to add a Hardcore/metal category…but knowing gma….anything not on the radio will never get recognized..thats why im so against the doves…they nominate just whats popular because of radio not actually good music
Gaither Vocal Band is nominated for group of the year? Seriously? I mean, nothing against them, but…come on…keep up with the times.
Pretty pumped that Denver and the Mile High Orchestra is nominated in the kids’ department…love Go Fish and they are connected with em.
Gaithers…they will always be around. It’s like the group that just won’t die off.
I’m not going to hate against any of these bands or singers. However, the Dove Awards make me very sad. Does anyone ever take these seriously?
I asked someone in the industry about it the other day, and they said it’s mostly important for publicity and marketing these days-it makes it easier on labels/managers when they can say their artist is a Dove nominee or winner. Also publicity with the tv coverage.
I wish the winners well, but really couldn’t care less. I think the Doves are increasingly irrelevant to fans, and the GMA is showing itself to be increasingly out of touch with the real world.
Amen!!!!
exactly, Susie, it is basically a public relations event, once you realize that then it is easier to sleep at night
Agreed. Although I think it also begs the question-how effective is their PR when they completely lose the interest of fans?
their is a target audience for the dove awards…and they reach that target audience pretty well, though I think they might be missing out on a larger audience if they spread their wings a bit
