Blessed By A Broken Heart – Feel The Power  Amazonmp3  / iTunes

In the CMZ interview with Blessed By A Broken Heart, Slater said, “There are no dead tracks on the record.” He was not lying. Upon pressing play, you had better be strapped in for 12 songs of sheer power. When I picked up this CD, I was not sure BBABH could pull it off. I should not have doubted these nine-year veterans for they packed their junior album full of raw heart pounding, foot stomping, fist pounding (not-pumping) adrenaline.

Feel The Power kicks off with their first single ‘Deathwish’. This song will get your blood moving as it sets the tone of the entire album. It starts will a slow slope into driving musical numbers that will take your brain on a hard rock highway. ‘Shut Up And Rock’ follows up and lets you know that these guys are ready to party. You will as well when the lyrics slip you subliminal messages cradled with guitars straight from the 80’s mixed with a little modern metal.

‘Love Nightmare’ opens the first of several songs that deal with those issues that rip the heart. I think everybody can empathize with problem in this song: to make a decision between two things you love. ‘Forever’ brings with it a bridge that any boyfriend could use to either get out of the doghouse or just make his girl feel good. ‘Thunder Dome’ is a 40 second segway that builds up for ‘Holdin’ Back For Nothin’’, a sheer and brutal fast-paced song of independence. I could not help to think of Pat Benatar’s ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ will listening to this track.

‘I’ve Got You’ pauses the intensity for a second to bring a love song straight from decades past. It is a perfect song to play if you fancy a slow dance or perhaps a proposal or something similar. ‘Rockin’ All Night’ starts stepping back toward the normal pace of the album as a less imperative version of ‘Shut Up And Rock’. It has somewhat of a Kid Rock sound to it. ‘Scream It Like You Mean It’ is the ninth track that has a club sound to it, different from the rest of the album.

‘Skate Or Die’ begins the end with a “live to ride” anthem. At this point on most CD’s, filler songs close the album without any noticeable tracks. Not in this case. BLESSED still pumps out three great songs. SOD ends with a motto we could all rally under “Lord, guide my path as I seek your kingdom.” ‘Innocent Blood’ is a story of betrayal and a second verse that describes Hell vividly. ‘Sleepless Nights’ ends the album with a powerful message of moving on. It is a well-suited song to end a great album.

If you are looking for a CD that has a few hit tracks that will surpass a ten-minute trip to the grocery store, this is not your album. If you are looking for a Sunday morning praise and worship album, this might not work. If you are, however, looking for a compilation that you can throw on repeat and blast across a 1,000-mile road trip, look no further. Feel The Power delivers hit after hit, blow after blow until your speakers will cry for mercy. Do yourself a favor come Jan. 24th and buy this CD.
