Flyleaf has announced that vocalist Lacey Sturm is leaving the band and being replaced by Kristen May (ex-Vedera). Lacey’s vocals appear on their soon to be released album “New Horizons”, but it will be the last record with her at the helm. What do you think of the news? 1. Wow, I wonder if the replacement is only for the tour or for all future albums. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes because Lacey’s unique voice is so closely associated with the band. My wife, who is a big Flyleaf fan, is more shocked than I am.

  2. Lacey has one of the most unique voices out there. Kristen May has a great voice, but it’s so different that I can’t see Flyleaf doing hard rock anymore. Probably stuff along the lines of So I Thought or Tiny Heart.

  3. WoW… Lead vocalist change… It may help/or kill them. It is unfortunate that bands have 1 person up front and nt several in the band ie: Downhere. Vocals are important. It will be interesting to see what happens!

  4. Totally bummed, not gonna lie, but at least her reasoning is good… I did check out a song from the new lady, and she’s actually quite good… Different, but I believe she’ll be able to do well at it. Also have to figure in that they weren’t going to just pick some one who can’t sing the songs… It’ll be alright, I hope!

  5. I may have missed it but what was Lacey’s reasoning for stepping down?

  6. At any rate, those two would be great reasons to step down. Either way, I wish Lacey the best. Flyleaf’s version of “How He Loves” is still one of my most cherished songs. Look forward to hearing Kristen May.

  7. Random question: do lead vocalists get much of a say in their successor if they are stepping down rather than leaving broken friendships?

    • i wouldn’t think so, generally. i’m sure there are exceptions, like Peter Furler may have had some influence in getting Michael Tait into the Newsboys (not sure if I remember that right or not, don’t quote me on that haha), but it isn’t really up to them.

  8. Then they won’t be Flyleaf
