How To Pick Your Dream Tour

There are definitive moments for music fans. From hearing your favorite album to finally getting the perfect mp3 player to seeing the sickest show of all time, these are things that define our love for music. As great as many of the shows I have been able to attend have been, it can hardly be said that any of them were the perfect tour.

The question then I must ask is how would someone even pick the perfect tour? You might just pick your favorite bands in order and line them up, but that doesn’t always work out. What if your favorite bands are an acoustic duo, a metalcore band, a pop punk band and a hip hop star? Although I have seen concerts that flow like this, it is generally because promoters don’t know what they’re doing, not because it makes any sense.

So I think I have a solution for what would be my perfect dream tour to be able to attend, though it is not likely to ever happen, that is why we call it a dream tour.

What I would do for my dream tour is to take my favorite rock bands and have them do an intimate, acoustic tour of small venues (I don’t want to watch from the upper deck of Anaheim Stadium).

House of Heroes would start off the night, being the band that I believe still needs to really “break out”, even though they have already come out with several great albums. Just like when they opened for Skillet and Tobymac, they’d probably have to stick to just a few of their best songs and I would choose for them to play “If”, “Ghost”, “Mercedes Baby”, “Love Is For The Middle Class” and “Buckets For Bullet Wounds” as a closer.

I would then have Bleach make a surprise comeback appearance just to hang out with some of their buds, playing a stellar set that would include “Patience” as their opener, plus “Rundown Town”, “Sun Stands Still”, “Write It Down” and “We Are Tomorrow”.

The guys in Emery are pros at this type of situation and would absolutely thrive, breaking out hits like “Walls”, “The Ponytail Parades”, “Fix Me”, “Listening To Freddie Mercury” and “Edge of the World”. I could pick ten more, but we have to have time for the headliners, don’t we?

Anberlin would then take the stage and blow our minds with songs like…ah, forget it, they can just play Cities straight through and I’d go home happy, though they have plenty of great songs to choose from, such as “Impossible”, “The Haunting”, “The Feel Good Drag”, “Godspeed” and so on.

Relient K is the headliner because they’re my favorite band and that is that. This would be an MMHMM heavy set and we can forget most of their early work as they have just gotten better over time, so I’d go with something like “Failure To Excommunicate”, “The Truth”, “The Lining Is Silver”, “Forget And Not Slow Down”, “High of 75″, “Candlelight”, “Savannah”, “Be My Escape”, “I So Hate Consequences”, “Let It All Out”, “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been”, “When I Go Down”, “Jefferson Aero Plane” and closing out the night with “Deathbed” making us all cry as Jon Foreman pops in to sing his cameo.

Then I’d go spend all my money at the merch table and find a Taco Bell. What would your dream tour look like?
