Interview! Capital Lights

After a nearly three year long hiatus, Capital Lights are on the verge of making a comeback album to finally come out after their incredibly entertaining debut “This Is An Outrage!” If you didn’t catch them the first time around, do yourself a favor and check them out on Amazonmp3 or iTunes. Jonny Williams was kind enough to answer a few questions for us, check it out!

CMZ:  First of all, welcome back! It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Capital Lights, what have you been up to since the band left the scene?

Jonny: Thanks so much! Well pretty much all of us went back to school and finished or are in the process of finishing. Brett got married in 2010 and I just got engaged in November. Brett and Bryson are both working together at a company in Tulsa, Michael is still going to school and I’m on staff at a church here in Sand Springs. We’ve been writing and recording this record for a while too so it’s been a long time coming.

CMZ:   What made you all decide to get back together to make a second album with Tooth & Nail? Is everyone back on board?

Jonny: Well, Bryson had been writing some songs and we were still under our contract to do another record with Tooth & Nail so we decided it would kind of be a waist to not do another one. Yes, all of us have been working on it.

CMZ:  Do we have an album title, album art and a release date all set or is that all still in the works?

Jonny: We have a pretty good idea for the album title but it’s not official yet. Everything else is still in the works.

CMZ:  I saw that you just joined Twitter, is it a little weird to you to come back in a different social network era?

Jonny: Eh, not really. I mean Twitter was getting popular toward the end of our run but it’s kind of all the same to us. I think Twitter is definitely way better for bands and their fans to communicate so I wish it would have been a more accessible option for us when we first released This Is An Outrage and started touring.

CMZ:  What can we expect for the new music to sound like in comparison to This Is An Outrage!?

Jonny: Pretty Similar but there seems to be more of a variety on the new record. There’s some aggressive pop/rock songs like Out of Control and Kick It Off on the new record as well as some electronic songs like Mile Away. Then there’s everything in between.

CMZ:  What have you learned while away that you think will help with this new album? Is there anything that you felt you could do better after having reflected on your prior run as a band?

Jonny: Well we produced this new album ourselves and so we were able to really be picky about tones, sounds, and performances. We weren’t rushed at all with This Is An Outrage we were just new to the game.

CMZ:  Are there any plans for playing any shows or is this strictly a one album comeback that you did because you could?

Jonny: No touring but it’s a possibility that we might do a few shows here and there.

CMZ: Is there anything else that we should know that I haven’t covered?

Jonny: No, we hope that everyone enjoys the new record
