Sons – Keep Quiet

There are many who had probably given up hope of this album ever happening. Finally the long awaited full length album from Sons will be released on Tuesday (2/14/2011) through SloSpeak records. I had very limited knowledge of this band prior to hearing the album. From the first note to each re-listen of the album, it didn’t only grab my ears but my whole being. Old fans will forget their long wait, and new fans will rejoice in this groundbreaking album. The album reiterates what their bio states: “Playing with a poetic message and delivering it with power..”. The album’s title is ‘Keep Quiet’ but there is nothing about this album that you will want to keep quiet. You will want to play it loud and shout to all your friends about the “next big thing” you’ve discovered.

As I reflect on what stands out on the album, it would have to be the whole album. The music, vocals, and lyrics are all top notch and keep pace with each other throughout. Aaron Newberry’s vocals are filled with a passion and honesty that only come along every so often in the industry. An aspect of Sons and of this album that stick out is their raw honesty. This is often something difficult to pull off in the “Christian” music scene. They are able to rock it and own it from beginning to end.

Throughout ‘Keep Quiet’ they keep to no formula or standards. I continue to try to come up with a comparison in musical style, but for me anything would be a hindrance to how good this album is. This is an album that bands to come will attempt to immulate their style. This may sound like a lot of praise, but it’s well deserved as you will hear when you listen. It’s only February and I’m confident that this album will be in my top five albums of 2012.

The highlight for me through this album is the album its self. There are stand out songs such as ‘Doubt’ and ‘Is this a Dry Season or Agnosticism’ along with others. However, this is an album that you will want to devour from beginning to end. Eventually songs will become favorites, but it’s an album best taken in full. Once again Slospeak Records has a another hit on their and is making waves in the industry

You can pick up their album via their website  or where digital music is sold.
